MINISTRIES AT ASCENSION CHURCH – ‘The Church on Claude Avenue’
You may like an overview on 1 page of the ministries happening at our Church! It gives you a feel but is not exhaustive!
Worship – Our main worship takes place at 10.30 am every Sunday;
Church & Community Youth Centre – Available for use by any youth organization in this area (approx 11-25) – capacity approx 30
Church Garden – little known open space hidden behind housing for games, BBQs (large brick built), marquees etc.
‘Ascension Gateway’ – our Church Hall was modernized during 2016/17 and Reopened 5th September 2016 and is available for community use. Well equipped kitchen. Capacity 80
Pastoral Visitors Team – We have a small group trained and licensed for home visiting, prayer support and general care of anyone in need in our Church & community- we meet 6 weekly to support each other
Prayer Ministry Team – Similarly we have those trained to pray with people during worship, or at other times. Some are also on the Pastoral Visiting Team. At present, the team meets via Zoom weekly.
Ascension Knitting Group a chance to get together and knit for charity, plus of course chat and refreshments. At present oversubscribed, they meet 10 am – 12 noon 1st Wednesdays and 3rd Mondays.
Worship and Pastoral support to Culverhay Nursing Home (not on at present due to Covid, hope to return) for Elderly and Mentally infirm (EMI) (at the bottom of The Hollow). Monthly mid-week worship, normally on 2nd Wednesdays, for residents, staff, family and friends. Also Pastoral visits and prayer for those in having a particular need.
Oldfield Park Junior School (State School) – Close work and co-operation with Assemblies, governance, hosting of large school events, availability to staff.
Hosting of very active groups – Scouting, Guiding and Girls Brigade in our Hall
Local Small Groups – Church in your area. Seeking to welcome, support, learn and help in the communities in which they are based.
Alpha – we have run many courses, which tend to take place according to demand, rather than a regular termly programme
Baptisms and Thanksgivings for the Gift of a Child – We discuss with parents what is most suitable for their situation and regularly hold both of these types of services during our main Sunday morning worship.
