14 December 2011 – Dream
Rev Robert gave me a copy of his guide to “Stillness, and Listening Time to God”. A couple of days after I had returned from hospital for a minor knee operation – in bed before sleep, I read through this. I spent time prayerfully considering when Jesus calms the storm (Luke 8:22-25), thought about recent “storms” in my life and prayed that my knee operation would be a complete success. I also glanced at some of the other readings mentioned by Robert. Then I went to sleep peacefully and had an amazing dream and wonderful experience.
It started with me lying on a bed in a cross between the hall of a stately home and a grey old (? war-time) hospital ward. In a nearby bed was my mother. I was caring for her but was concerned that we were both somewhat unwell. Then I looked up and saw a couple of statues (head and shoulders) embedded into the angle between the ceiling and the wall. One was a statue of Jesus with Him dressed in sky blue or pale turquoise. I was feeling anxious about losing my mother.
Then the statue came to life and Jesus walked over to the foot of my bed. He made towards reaching out to my foot and I thought He was going to kiss my foot. I quickly offered my hand instead and said “Jesus, my Lord and Master.” He took my hand and I am uncertain whether He kissed my hand or I kissed His. I rose from the bed and was in His presence face to face.
He was dressed in a royal blue robe with gold braid/decoration. He had dark skin/a suntan and a beard and moustache. I was feeling so excited (but calm) and safe that Jesus was real and that He was actually with me and very close to me.
At that point I woke up, still feeling excited (but calm), warm, loved, safe and wonderfully peaceful thinking and feeling that Jesus is real, I really had been and was still in the presence of our Lord, and how wonderful was that. I was also thinking that Jesus came to serve me and I wanted to serve Him, which was the thought I had when I met Him in the dream.
Subsequently after praying “Show me how you want me to serve you”, I read:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit…If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you. This is to my Father’s glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” – John 15:5-8, NIV
“You are my friends if you do what I command…This is my command. Love each other.” – John 15:14-17, NIV
