just a few thoughts for the next 2 Sundays – from the Vicar

Emotional acceptance of yourself (23rd)

You are loved by God. YOU are loved by God. Not the person you would like to be, not the person you think you ought to be, not (worse still) the person you think God would much prefer. Do you not believe Him when He said he made you? That you are precious to Him just because you are you, nor someone else? This is actually very difficult to accept, we are troubled by ourselves very often. In case you doubt His love for YOU, just hear Jesus’ words today, “The very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Pray for Chris Brann as he speaks on this tricky subject. At New Wine, one speaker memorably invited us to be ‘tender-hearted to ourselves, for God is tender-hearted towards us’. And as we discover how to do this towards our own selves, we will undoubtedly find ourselves tender-hearted towards others, as we are called to be.

Seasons of Life (30th)

Do you remember that beautiful song, ‘To everything – turn, turn, turn There is a season – turn, turn, turn‘?* The song then goes on to recite the words we have today from the Wisdom book of Ecclesiastes about times and seasons starting ‘For everything there is a season …. a time to be born, a time to die…’ It is a beautiful song as it reflects on how there are seasons in our lives, good and easy ones, tough and dark ones. God knows the days of our lives, they are written in his book. Following on from last week’s thoughts, God knows us, he knows our needs, he sees the whole picture, and is very patient, bringing different things into fruit, or to die back in their time. Even the 1 lost sheep out of the 99 is far from forgotten, rather he is sought out by the Lord of love! May you rejoice and trust in the Lord God, however near of far away he seems at the moment, whatever your season in life!
